What Causes A Metatarsal Neuroma?

The exact cause of Metatarsal Neuroma is not fully understood, but several factors are known to contribute to its development. These include:

• Foot Deformities – Those with bunions, hammertoes, high arches or flat feet are more likely to develop a Metatarsal Neuroma.
• Footwear – High heeled shoes that cause the toes to be forced into the toe box can aggravate the condition. Narrow shoes that squeeze the toes can also contribute.
• Repetitive Stress – Activities that involve running, or other sports that put pressure on the ball of the foot can lead to this condition.
• Injury – Previous injuries or trauma to the foot can also lead to this condition.

What Are The Sympotoms?

The symptoms of Metatarsal Neuroma include:

• Shooting pain in the ball of the foot, often described as feeling like standing on a pebble in your shoe.
• Tingling or numbness in the toes.
• Buring pain in the ball of the foot, which may radiate into the toes.
• A sensation of something being inside the ball of the foot or inside the shoe.
