Some foot types are more prone to certain injuries. That is why determining your foot type can really help improve everyday performance and prevent these injuries from occurring. It can also help guide you to find the best shoes with the right kind of support.

There are three main foot types:

  1. High arch (Pes Cavus): Rolling out with slight roll in also known as an underpronater
  2. Neutral arch: Foot is not excessively rolling in or out
  3. Low arch/flat footed (Pes Planus): Excessive rolling in of the foot also known as an over pronater.

 

Runners for different foot types:

  1. High arches – Cushioning shoes are ideal. Features of the shoes include a flexible sole with a built in curve made of lightweight materials that provide minimal rigidity and increased cushioning. These shoes have a curved shoe last
  2. Normal arches – Stability shoes are best as it provides mild control, often comes with a gentle arch built in and made with high density foam. These shoes have a semi- curved shoe last
  3. Low or no arch – Motion control shoes are recommended as they have a rigid device made out of plastic, fiberglass or high density foam. The arch area is filled in for increased stability and support in the midsole region. These shoes have a straight shoe last.
